The English Language Film Club
Putting film at the heart of language learning
About
The English Language Film Club is a hybrid language course for ESL and EFL learners. Using a blended learning approach, students complete comprehensive homework (weekly Film Guide) in advance of watching feature length films in class.
With access to over 100 Film Guides ( classic, modern, adventure, biographical, historical and more) and lesson plans, as well as articles, advice and workshops on using film in language learning, the English Language Film Club has everything you need to establish film as a regular feature in your learning centre.
How it Works
Our unique twelve week course has two components: Home Study and Movie Night
Home Study – This prepares students for watching feature-length films with weekly film guides available six days in advance. In addition to key dialogue, each film guide contains a list of major characters, a plot summary, gap fill exercise, idiom/phrasal verb exercise, background information and youtube links to interviews with directors and stars.
Movie Night – Movie night begins with paired discussions where students compare various aspects of their homework. We recommend screening movies in a completely darkened room and setting aside thirty minutes for paired discussions after viewing.
